For the last few years, a mushroom has been found in European dishes, that is not only remarkable for its exquisite taste: the shiitake mushroom is also an amazing medicinal mushroom!

The shiitake mushroom has been cultivated in Asia for more than 3000 years and is highly regarded there as an edible and medicinal mushroom. Japanese gourmets have even invented their own taste concept for it: "Umami", meaning meaty, hearty.

This fungus contains a large number of bio active compounds, including eritadenin. In addition to the vitamins of the B group- which are vital for human nutrition, but almost never found in plants- the shiitake contains ergosterol (provitamin D), as well as minerals such as potassium, calcium, phosphorus, iron and zinc. It also contains seven of the eight essential amino acids. This is why the shiitake is a popular element in different diets (for example, cholesterol-regulating diets). Among medicinal mushrooms, it is considered a small "power pack".
