Pleurotus, Oyster Mushroom

The Oyster mushroom is spread almost worldwide. It grows preferably near red beeches, where it appears in late autumn in compact clusters. Havin been cultivated for abaout 50 years, today also gourmets highly estimate this mushroom for its nutty taste. School medizine has explored its ingredients with large interest.

Pleurotus contains vitamins of the B complex (B1, B2, B5, B6, B7, B9) and vitamin C. Of special interest are Pleurin, a Beta-glucan, that is able to support our immune system, and lovastatin.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine Pleurotus is used "to relax and nourish sinews and ligaments". It benefits a natural intestinal flora (probiotic effect) and a healthy cholesterol metabolism.
