The horsetail is also widespread in Europe.
It grows in meadows and along roads. Its  name 'Shaggy Ink Cap' arises from the fact that older specimens dissolve into a kind of black ink on contact. Harvested young, it is an excellent edible mushroom.

The horsetail has a protein content of 30 percent, including all eight essential amino acids. Due to its balanced vitamin content (especially the B Group, but also vitamin C) and its enzymes and minerals the horsetail is a valuable element of daily nutrition for various diets. It can support the body in regulating a healthy blood sugar level.
